5 Habits That Quietly Cause Belly Fat

The causes of belly fat are habits that we realize or are not aware of. We all know that a belly fat is not a good sign for the body. Maintaining a healthy body shape and in accordance with the criteria is not easy, it requires dedication, discipline, consistency, and strong endurance.

But, many people end up justifying various ways not to do what they hate, such as controlling food. Here are some bad habits that are the cause of a belly fat and are often done unnoticed.

Habits That Causes Belly Fat

1 Eat late at night

While it is true that your body naturally burns some fat deposits while you sleep, your body will not burn efficiently if you sleep on a full stomach. In addition to causing abdominal fat, late eating and lying down after being full increase the risk of stomach acid reflux and indigestion.

That happens because of changes in gravity, so the body is unable to pull food in the stomach downward.

To prevent this condition, consider eating a little food at night, and don’t lie down for at least three hours after dinner. If possible, eat some fruits if you feel a little hungry at night, instead of eating sweet foods to satisfy your appetite.

2 Eat when sad, angry or upset

Have you ever found yourself eating unconsciously when you are angry? The next time you notice this kind of behavior, try to change your attitude before you end up eating fast food, like burgers, fried rice, or instant noodles.

Eating when emotional is not a problem if it can make you feel better, but if you always rely on eating whenever you are stressed or angry, do not be surprised if the accumulation of fat in the stomach increases.

The best way to combat the response to stress is to drink a glass of water, and talk with a friend or walk casually to calm down. Choose activities that don’t involve eating, so you can stop yourself from having excess calories when you feel emotional.

3 Not getting enough sleep

Ideally, adults should get about seven to nine hours of sleep each night. When you fail to get enough sleep, the level of cortisol (stress hormone) will increase and cause you to eat foods high in sugar.

With thoughts like that, it will be more difficult to get rid of belly fat when you maintain this sleep deprivation habit.

To maintain normal levels of the stress hormone cortisol, try to get a good night’s sleep every night. In this way, you can balance cortisol levels while increasing leptin production (a hormone that can make you control your appetite).

4 Use a large plate every time you eat

Whether it’s a buffet meal or a regular dinner at home, pay attention to the size of your plate every time you eat. In a survey conducted among obese people, it was found that they had the most large plates between small and medium plates. With a large size plate, they have more room to put their food.

If you have a large space to put your food, then you tend to consume more than your body needs. This leads to the accumulation of fat in the body. Therefore, choose a smaller plate to hold your appetite.

5 Smoking

Smoking can help reduce weight, but it can also be a cause of belly fat. Many people who survive by smoking for reasons of fear of having a fat body, in fact studies have revealed that instead of a thin body even a distended abdomen obtained by smokers.

Scientists from the University of Glasgow found that smoking might be associated with a lower overall weight, but it tends to push fat toward the core areas of the body, which results in a bigger stomach.
